Job Purpose:
To support the Swiss Legal Team in a broad variety of legal matters covering multiple functions and business lines. Reporting to a Senior Counsel in the Swiss Legal Team.
Job Background/context:
The Swiss Legal Department currently consists of 7 Legal Counsels and 1 Paralegal. The team supports all Swiss Citi Entities, businesses as well as other teams and functions in all legal matters.
Specifically, the team is part of Citi Global Wealth EMEA Legal and provides support primarily to the Private Bank business (“CPB”) that offers wealth management, investment and banking services to high-net-worth clients. Additionally, the team also supports the Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory "BCMA", Treasury and Trade Solutions "TTS", Commercial Bank "CCB", Broker-Dealer "Markets" and Trust businesses in Switzerland.
We are looking for a Legal Counsel who is able to work independently and mainly support the Private Bank in a variety of legal matters. In this position, the candidate will report to a Senior Counsel in Zurich who directly reports to the Head of the Swiss Legal Team and work very closely with the other team members based in Zurich and Geneva as well as the Product Legal Teams in the region and globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- General legal advice to CPB Business & Functions as well as Product Legal Teams
- Reviewing & drafting contracts, client documentation, letters, etc. governed by Swiss law
- Reviewing & negotiating guarantees, non-disclosure agreements, procurement contracts and other legal documents
- Providing legal advice with respect to local and regional/global regulatory projects if and when necessary
- Assist with client requests and inheritance matters, fraud related matters, litigation cases, bank documentation drafting and review, criminal and civil production orders
- Providing legal advice to Citi colleagues in other jurisdictions with regards to clients based and/or incorporated in Switzerland (e.g., regulatory queries, trade register, corporate governance related queries)
- Support senior counsels in litigation cases (incl. client complaints, HR cases, internal investigations)
- Advising the business in queries related to corporate governance, legal vehicle organization and similar queries
- Providing accurate and timely legal advice in relation to other Swiss law matters, as directed by the Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in a Bank (preferably with an international focus) or in a Swiss or International Law Firm (banking experience)
- Experience in Private and/or Corporate Banking related issues, preferably in an international environment
- Experience in regulatory change projects would be an advantage
Skills:
- Languages: Excellent command of English and German (verbally and in writing), additional Swiss language(s) would be an advantage
- Teamwork: Ability to closely interact, cooperate and work on matters with team members as well as other departments
- Outstanding communication skills and ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization
- Dedication, accuracy and attention to detail

Qualifications:
- Master of Law (or lic. iur.) from a Swiss University is a requirement
- Swiss Bar would be an advantage
