The Position

Legal Counsel – Legal Pharma Partnering Basel

We are looking for an experienced in-house lawyer to join our team as soon as possible.

As part of the Legal Pharma Partnering team at the Roche headquarter in Basel, Switzerland, you will be part of a global team of experienced attorneys who support the business development unit of Roche’s pharma division (Pharma Partnering). We support strategically important transactions like licensing and other agreements concerning cutting-edge technologies (including in the area of personalized healthcare) for research, development and commercialization of innovative pharma products.

In this role you will be part of cross-functional deal teams and provide legal advice independently. You should be able to clearly and concisely communicate well-reasoned recommendations to business stakeholders. In addition, you should be comfortable with calibrating and advising on acceptable levels of risk commensurate with broader business objectives and opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • work on the structuring, drafting and negotiation of complex pharma licensing, digital healthcare and strategic transactions and help develop and recommend innovative solutions to complex legal and business issues
  • interact with colleagues across Roche and work closely with stakeholders in business development, research, development, manufacturing, regulatory, finance, tax and commercial teams
  • build your own portfolio of collaborations and alliances which you will counsel independently
  • participate in negotiations with partners in Switzerland and abroad
  • build expertise and interact closely with other legal colleagues in Basel and globally to provide optimal support of business development transactions in the area of personalized healthcare (PHC)
  • provide legal training regarding various topics of relevance to and in support of business needs

Qualification

  • Master degree in Law (MLaw, lic.iur.), admission to the bar (Swiss qualification or equivalent foreign qualification)
  • Fluency in English, German is a plus

Experience/Requirements

  • at least 10 years or more of professional experience in the life sciences industry
  • excellent knowledge of the pharmaceutical value chain
  • significant experience with contract drafting, including for licensing and digital projects
  • good knowledge in the following areas of law: European competition law, intellectual property law, data privacy, software/IT law
  • hands-on and pragmatic
  • strong team orientation, integrity
  • growth mindset and open to engage in lifelong learning

  • able to communicate clearly, convincingly and diplomatically
  • be a trusted partner for our business development colleagues
